Leadership

What are the true signs of being a leader? Lets use a team captain of a sports team as an example. What qualities are valuable in a team leader position? Does it have anything to do with natural talent? Or does it all come down to personality? Here are my thoughts:

To answer this, you must go back to basics and look at what you want the quintessential leader to be like.

1. A role model, at all times
2. An approachable figure with people skills
3. Someone who is able to accept blame and move on

Indeed, there are more specific qualities to a leader that I'm not going into, but when it comes down to it, raw talent is not essential. GENERALLY the best person on a team turns out to be captain because teammates put them on a pedestal as being more athletic and GENERALLY the best person on the team takes the responsibility of leadership with a grain of salt, for good athletes have become modest over years and know better than to become corrupt with power. However, generally doesn't encompass every situation and in these situations, you must always look for others who possess the basic qualities.

If you were thrown into a room with 5 other strangers and were asked to create a society, naturally a leader would emerge sooner or later. What is the talent here? Living? So the person who "lives" best should be leader? I think not. Leading and athleticism do not go hand in hand and if you don't possess the essential characteristics then "C'est la vie".
